The 8th of August is 'the day of mountain' which was established by Gifu local government since last year. There are lots of events and activities, especially for children, take place on this day at the main venue Gifu Forest Academy. We the craft and furniture department staffs are preparing for a series of craft courses from the 4th to 8th.
８月４日は「ものづくりセミナー〜作る体験だけで終わらせていませんか？」。
自然学校やNPOスタッフの方を対象に、ものづくり講座をよりよい内容にするためのヒントを伝えます。
８月５日は「森林文化特別講座」。
アル・ゴア前米副大統領の「不都合な真実」の訳者で、環境ジャーナリストの枝廣淳子さんの講演です。
８月６〜７日は「美術・技術教員研修」と「木のおもちゃづくり講座」。
親子を対象に、木のおもちゃづくりをします。また近隣の学校の美術・技術担当の先生方に、木を使ったものづくり講座の運営方法を学んでいただきます。
おなじく８月６〜７日には、「木の塗装講座」。
前回の記事でもご紹介した登根円さんとともに、漆やオイルの塗装をたのしく学びます。

Madoka Tone, the Japanese lacquer artist, shows how to apply Japanese lacquer on wooden utensils. Oil finishing by the Academy staff is also provided.

さて８月４日の「ものづくりセミナー」では、バードカービングの第一人者、内山春雄さんを講師にお招きします。内山さんは現代の名工にも選ばれた技術の持ち主ですが、小中学校でのものづくりを通した教育活動にも力を入れておられます。
セミナーでは、自然学校やNPOスタッフの方に実際にバードカービングを体験していただきます。本番を前に、内山さんにアカデミーへお越しいただき、当日アシスタントを務める学生たちに指導をしていただきました。
バードカービングを始めるにあたり、山階鳥類研究所で鳥の解剖から始めたという内山さん。
鳥の彫り方の説明も、まず骨格を描くところからなのです。奥が深い！
We invite Mr.Haruo Uchiyama, the Japan's leading bird carver, as a lecturer of "Seminar for Professionals" on 4th. He was certified as "Master Craftsman of Modern Times", and has a passion for introducing crafts into education.
All the participants will experience bird carving under Uchiyama's tuition. This week Uchiyama visited Gifu Academy to teach our students in advance who becomes assistant staffs to Uchiyama during the Seminar.
Uchiyama started his career by dissect dead birds at Yamashina Institute for Ornithology. He draws the carcass of the bird as he teaches how to carve it!

今回は電動工具を使用しましたが、木の表面に繊細な鳥の羽がみるみる現れてきます。
They used electric router for carving, which carves fluffy feather instantly on the wooden surface.
