We went to the Craft Fair Matsumoto, one of the biggest craft fairs in Japan. Hundreds of exhibitors; woodworkers, potters, weavers, glassmakers, and metalsmiths, had their stands at a huge park in the citycentre of Matsumoto.
It is important for the students to meet many professional craftspeople. It makes their purpose of study and the goal clearer, and they can make the most of their two years at the college.
Everything is a hint of their study; their display, design, price, communication with the customer.
The exhibitors were so friendly and kind that students were allowed to take many photographs, and try some of their tools at the demonstration. Great thanks to all the exhibitors and the organizer of the fair.
５月２７日、ものづくり研究会の学生を中心に、長野県の松本市で行われた「クラフトフェアまつもと」を見学してきました。ここには木工はもとより、陶磁器、ガラス、金属等さまざまなクラフト作家たちが全国から集まり、出店しています。

学生の頃から多くのプロの作り手たちと接することは、とても大切だと考えます。卒業後の自分のめざす進路がより明確になり、２年間の限られた学生生活の間に学んでおくべきことが絞り込めてくるからです。
また、出品されている作品のデザインや質はどうか、価格設定はどうか、展示にどんな工夫が凝らされているか、出品者はお客さんとどうコミュニケーションをはかるのか、ひとつひとつが勉強です。
それにしてもこのクラフトフェアに出品されている方々は、みなさんとてもオープンで親切でした。参考に作品の写真を撮らせていただいたり、作品づくりに使う道具や技法を教えていただいたり、制作を実演させてもらったり。それぞれに大きな刺激を受けてきました。
出品者のみなさんと、クラフトフェアを育ててこられた実行委員会のみなさん、貴重な体験をありがとうございました。
